Celaena Sardothien, an 18 yr old girl, is the greatest assassin of the kingdom of Adarlan. She had been imprisoned in the salt mines of Endovier before being offered with the chance to fight for a chance to serve as king’s champion, by Prince Dorian. She accepts the offer as it was her only way out of the Endovier and should she win the championship, she would be freed after 4 yr.
Celaena began her practicing and was under the close scrutiny of Adarlan’s captain, Chaol Westfall. During this, she realizes that there is more to her journey than just the championship. The hidden mysteries and ongoing events in the castle resonates with her past, a past that is perfectly concealed. A past that can change her future entirely. A series of events reveals her true identity. She has to right a wrong that was done years back by her ancestors, a true purpose behind the mercy of fate to free her from Endovier!
She wins the championship and carries out tasks given by the king. One such task was in Wendly, where she encounters the fae prince, Rowan Whitehorn, blood sworn to fae Queen Maeve. He teaches her, her true powers and helps to shape it. Upon her return to Adarlan she confronts a different kingdom, bathed in bloodshed and gory. Their arises a pressing need to complete her purpose or the world would die in the hands of Valgs.

This series is one of the most amazing series that I have read so far. There are lots of series that I had enjoyed reading and probably wouldn’t forget about them ever. But this will rank first amongst them. I am short of words to define this. Sarah has written it beautifully defining each and every characters with justice to their roles.

And cliffhangers…? Lots!!!! So many that I had to extricate myself from the book with the promise to continue as soon as possible! It is an astounding mixture of thrill, suspense, action, war, fantasy, passion undying love and friendship.
My name is Celaena Sardothien. But it makes no difference if my name’s Celaena or Lillian or Bitch, because I’d still beat you, no matter what you call me.
Also I loved the pickup lines and snide comments. To quick and well phrased! The girl is beauty with brain and has every cell in her laced with attitude. But within it there is a kernel of love and empathy.
“No matter what happens,” she said quietly, “I want to thank you.”
Chaol tilted his head to the side. “For what?”
Her eyes stung but she blamed it on the fierce wind and blinked away the dampness. “For making my freedom mean something”.
